As a leadership development coach here in Central Maine, I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredibly dedicated professionals — people who care deeply about their teams and want to lead well, even when the path isn’t clear. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that leadership isn’t for the faint of heart.
This is a story of one local leader who, not long ago, found themselves in the thick of it. They had recently stepped into a new role, overseeing a growing team at a fast-paced organization. Almost immediately, they felt the weight of competing priorities, shifting expectations, and the constant need to keep people connected, focused, and motivated. Meetings lacked direction, projects stalled, and morale began to dip. Despite their genuine commitment to creating a positive, productive environment, meaningful progress felt out of reach.
Recognizing they needed support — not just advice, but practical tools and a fresh perspective — this leader enrolled in a program I facilitate called Amplify Leadership. What stood out to them was how different this experience felt. It’s not just theory or one-size-fits-all advice. Through a blend of interactive workshops, personal coaching sessions, and practical strategies leaders can immediately apply, participants uncover what really matters in their leadership — their voice, their values, and their ability to connect authentically with others.
For this leader, a major turning point came during a session on insight-driven decision-making. We worked on slowing down to ask better questions and truly listen — not just to surface problems but to uncover what was underneath them. Through this process, they discovered some valuable insights about what was holding their team back and what people actually needed to feel supported and successful.
They started making small, meaningful changes. Meetings were restructured to stay focused on priorities and solutions. Simple communication tools were introduced to help everyone stay informed and aligned. Regular check-ins gave team members a voice, and feedback loops created a sense of shared ownership.
Over the next few months, the difference was clear. Employee engagement rose. Cross-department collaboration improved. Work processes became smoother and more effective. And maybe most importantly — that leader, who had once felt overwhelmed and isolated, began to feel re-energized. They showed up each day with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose, able to navigate the inevitable challenges of leadership with a steady hand.
I’ve seen this kind of transformation happen again and again when people are given the space, tools, and encouragement to find their leadership voice. And I can tell you — it’s one of the most rewarding parts of the work I do.
